A key task for the COP is to review the national communications and emission inventories submitted by Parties. Based on this information, the COP assesses the effects of the measures taken by Parties and the progress made in achieving the ultimate objective of the Convention. The Parties also discuss the measures and means that need to be committed to ensure progress towards the reduction ambition, which are then reported into a joint declaration.

Renewed partnership with ISWA

The FSWP is pursuing its partnership with ISWA initiated at COP28 to consolidate the contributions of all solid waste stakeholders in this international arena. It is a unique opportunity to unify the voice of the waste sector, in order to amplify its outreach to the climate community and mobilise national delegations around an ambition to reduce emissions through improved waste management (prevention, source separation, collection and treatment, recycling).

The FSWP presence at COP30

We are working on organizing an event dedicated to sustainable cities, waste, and circularity on November 6 in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with ISWA, CECC-LAC and the Brazilian Mayor’s Coalition. The aim is to involve cities and stakeholders participating in the C40 Summit in an official COP side event, providing a platform for exchange between cities, waste experts, and international organisations. In addition, the FSWP has submitted a request for an event at the French pavilion in the blue zone, according to the thematic days dedicated to our topics.

Our 2025 publication « Atlas on Waste Management and Climate Change Mitigation. Focus on integrating waste initiatives into NDCs. » will be widely shared around these events. The latter is available to download.
