Each year, the COP reviews the national communications and emission inventories submitted by Parties, assessing progress made towards the objectives of the Convention. Beyond the formal negotiations, Türkiye — together with Australia as partner country — has launched the COP31 Action Agenda, structured around ten priority themes that will guide the COP31 Thematic Days in Antalya:

• Youth and Education
• Food Security
• Oceans and Seas
• Dynamic and Resilient Health Systems

Methane and Waste: A Priority on the Road to COP31
Among these ten themes, “Zero Waste and Methane Reduction” confirms that methane will hold a central place on the agenda in Antalya. Methane is responsible for around 30% of current global warming, and the waste sector represents a critical opportunity to deliver immediate climate benefits. The Presidency has set a clear, science-based milestone: cutting the projected increase in global annual municipal solid waste generation by at least 50% by 2035. In light of this ambition, FSWP calls on all waste management stakeholders to mobilize around concrete actions to prevent waste, strengthen circularity, and cut methane emissions from the sector.
